When Danish history is written, North Jutland will play a big part - here in North Jutland there are countless churches, abbeys, castles, manor houses and fortresses to see, all with fascinating stories to tell.
|
This is particularly true for the many fairy tale castles and manor houses in North Jutland. Study works by famous artists such as Rafael, Goya and El Greco at Voregård Castle, and you might even catch a glimpse of the castle ghost Ingeborg Skeel.
You will see many beautiful church towers and spires, and hear the church bells ringing every hour at Aalborg's St. Budolfi Church. The countless rural village churches are also worth a visit.
Vitskøl Kloster (monastery) south of Løgstør could have become the largest church in Denmark if Valdemar the Great had ever finished it! Only the remarkable ruins remain of the church.

Near Løkken you will find the towering white Børglum Kloster (monastery), which was built by monks and subsequently became a bishopric, and once home to Stygge Krumpen. The numerous excavations at Dueholm Kloster (monastery) provide a picture of medieval life on the island of Mors.

Viking traces can be found several places in North Jutland. Near the Limfjord close to Aggersund, you will see the remains of Denmark's largest Viking fortress. Another interesting place is the Viking fort Fyrkat in Hobro.
Alternatively, you can learn more about the Vikings at Lindholm Høje near Aalborg, the largest Viking burial site in Scandinavia.
