Tversted

If you drive through Tversted passing carefully between its atmospheric old houses you will reach one of the west coast’s best and broadest beaches with tall dunes and wide open spaces. The beach is not to be missed at any time of the year and has, of course, been accorded a blue flag.

Tversted strandThe countryside around Tversted is ever changing and extends right down to the North Sea. If you move inland you will find large unspoilt nature areas – perhaps the reason why a number of artists have chosen to make this unpolished coastal pearl their home, inspired by the quality of the light and the area’s many natural charms.

Tversted is a cosy little town with a number of beautiful old houses characteristic of the area. The 500 inhabitants work hard to maintain the original village ambience. On the High Street you’ll find galleries and small shops to suit every taste. In Tversted and the surrounding area a range of accommodation is available, including hotels, campsites and holiday apartments as well as a number of holiday cottages.

Tversted søTversted Klitplantage and Tversted Søerne represent a luscious area of forestry that extends right to the waters edge and features paths and viewing towers. Tversted Søerne are one of the regions most visited attractions all year round and are favoured with a variety of birdlife including mallards, coots and moorhens. In the summer months lilies flower in the lakes and there’s an excellent woodland play area for the kids as well as benches and tables where you can enjoy a picnic. The windmill "Østerklit” is the last remaining functional mill on stilts in Denmark. The dunes are also home to a rich variety of animal and plant life. You’ll find a number of rare plants here, including various varieties of orchids, and you can take the opportunity to gather berries, plants and fungi.

Tversted kunsthåndværkWhy not also pay a visit to the many local artists and artisans? You'll find ceramics, glassware, knitwear, pictures and many other articles of high quality. Many of the workshops are open to the public and you can get the chance to see how clay can be transformed into raku pottery or how glass is blown.
