The beaches of Northern Jutland

From Skagen in the North to Agger in the South, you can find Northern Europe's finest, whitest and broadest sandy beaches. Along the coast, a number of small cosy resorts are available, offering all that your heart may desire.

Fiskerbåde NordjyllandSome places, you can still see the fishermen pulling their boats up onto the beach as they used to in the olden days. Grenen is the most northerly point in Denmark; a place where you can stand with a foot in each sea. All along the coast you will find extraordinarily beautiful North Sea sunsets.
In Northern Jutland, you will find beaches that are to your taste: short beaches, long beaches, wide beaches, narrow beaches and meadows with grass that goes down right to the water's edge.

You will always be able to find a beach that suits you, whether you are after child friendly beaches with shallow water and no waves, beaches for windsurfers or long lonely stretches of sand where you can really feel the forces of nature when the wind blows.

Nordjyske strandeThe beach, and coastal areas in general, have plenty to offer when summer is over. A long beach walk where your eye can wander into the distance and your thoughts have free reign is remarkably relaxing. The air is fresh and clean and inhaling it deep into your lungs is invigorating. And then there is the welcome return to your holiday cottage after your walk for coffee or a mug of cocoa.

Spring and winter are the best seasons in which to hunt for amber. When autumnal storms have blown themselves out, you can often find clumps of amber wrapped in seaweed on the shore, but you will have to be up with the larks and have a watchful eye if you want to find them. All too often what you have taken for a lump of amber turns out to be a stone or piece of glass.
You can find out whether you are really holding a lump of amber by sticking a heated needle into the mass - amber gives off an unmistakeable smell of resin.
