Klitmøller

Klitmøller is a celebrated holiday destination in Northern Jutland, 10 km. south-west of Hantsholm and 17 km. north-west of Thisted. With Limfjorden to the east, the North Sea to the west, Hanstholm to the north and Thyborøn Kanal to the south you’ll get a real feel for the power of the North Sea when the Atlantic swell from Iceland and The Faeroe Islands is driven toward the coast by a north-westerly breeze.

Windsurfing KlitmøllerKlitmøller is a cosy fishing village in a bay that backs onto a scenic area with be-planted dunes and nature reserves. Small colourful fishing boats still set sail every day and there are plenty of opportunities to buy fresh fish. The beautiful white sandy beaches around Klitmøller are about 50 metres deep and go on for miles.

Klitmøller is a little different to the other resorts in Thy, the wild landscape of the dunes, the many recreational facilities and the exceptional conditions for windsurfing attract visitors from around the world. Klitmøller really is a paradise for windsurfers and has played host to sizeable windsurfer meets many a time. The town is often referred to as "The Hawaii of Northern Europe" and conditions for Waveperformance windsurfing and surfing, are amongst the best. Often you’ll find the sea packed with windsurfers practising their moves – also during the winter months.

Klitmøller naturA variety of lakes, pine tree plantations and heathland make an inviting and wild backdrop to Klitmøller. You can follow Klitmøller river from its mouth in the North Sea to the Vandet Sø lake and experience the rich variety of animal life that flourishes in these parts. You may even be lucky enough to catch a glimpse of an otter or two…Hansted-Reservat is Denmark’s largest game reserve. With an area of over 4000 hectares it stretches all the way from Klitmøller to Hanstholm. The area consists mostly of dunes and heathland with lakes and a rich and abundant variety of animal life. During the spring brooding season the area cannot be visited.
Nystrup Klitplantage near Klitmøller is an area with sunken roads, burial mounds, beautiful forests and a number of rambler tracks. It’s not far from Vandet Sø and Nors Sø which are amongst the cleanest lakes in the country, and ones from which you can both bathe and fish. 

Klitmøller landningspladsKlitmøller is an excellent base for an active holiday, whether you’re a keen angler, golfer, horseman, tennis-player, bowler or windsurfer. Klitmøller Church, (1872) is well worth a visit and the church’s location has marked it.

Many of the houses built when the area was an active trading centre still survive, giving an impression of the town’s history. There are a wide range of shops and restaurants and plenty of places to stay including hotels, camp sites, cottages and rented rooms.
