Denmark has a unique cycling culture, not least due to the fact that cycling skills are still passed down from parents to children in the vast majority of families. Due to the stresses of modern-day working life, however, cycle training can sometimes be forgotten – and thus a break such as the autumn half-term holiday is an excellent time to focus on cycle training.
Cycle trainingCycling is a fun, relaxing and healthy activity which the whole family can enjoy together – and when children and adults cycle together, there are plenty of opportunities to talk about how to deal with different situations on the road.
A cycle trip in the great outdoors gives parents a unique chance to see how the children deal with traffic in practice. Perhaps the rules of the highway code need to be trained, perhaps the child’s balance on his or her bike can be a bit better – or perhaps the child is now ready to cycle to school on his or her own.
Go on a cycling trip
From Skagen in the north down to Mariager in the south, North Jutland is crisscrossed by a closely spaced network of marked or signposted national, regional and local cycle routes. North Jutland is thus ideal for a cycling holiday or a day’s outing on two wheels. Ride down to the beach, across the heaths, through peaceful woods and visit the numerous pleasant towns and villages which provide welcome breaks and an injection of culture when you’re on a cycling trip.
In addition to the national cycle routes in North Jutland, the region offers lots of other great cycling experiences on regional and local cycle routes. Several local tourist offices also have local cycling maps available.
