A holiday with art and culture need not be an alternative saved for "a rainy day".
Most people have probably heard about the Skagen painters Michael Ancher and P. S. Krøyer who were both fascinated by Northern Jutland's light and landscape.
This, together with good opportunities for peace, freedom, fresh air and plenty of room to exercise their creativity, has played an essential part in explaining why Denmark's best contemporary artists and craftsmen have also settled in our region. Therefore you will find a wealth of galleries and workshops in North Jutland which sell ceramics, glass art, candles, amber, paintings and watercolours, antiques, textiles, knitwear and silver and gold jewellery.
All in all, Northern Jutland offers so many cultural experiences that is it impossible to mention them all here, but we would, however, like to recommend a few:
- Northern Jutland's Art Museum in Aalborg, featuring a large collection of Danish and international 20th century art. The museum arranges exhibitions with contemporary artists
- Heltborg Museum in Thy, with Jens Søndergaard's impressionist paintings on display
- Thit Jensen's Museum in Farsø and Jeppe Aakjær's home "Jenle" in Salling are only two of several preserved homes of writers and poets in Central and Northern Jutland
- Churches with frescos from the Roman and Gothic times, for instance Dronninglund Chapel and Børglum Monastery
- Skagen Museum and Anna and Michael Ancher's house featuring collections of the Skagen painters' works
- And, now that you are in Skagen, why not go to a concert by the local, colourful musicians "Sussi & Leo" who represent a completely different art form.
These and many other cultural experiences await you in North Jutland, and if you'd like more information on this subject, please use our search engine which also contains links to the homepages concerning art and culture, etc. You are also welcome to order our brochure.
